A strong Barnsley Development Squad were comfortably defeated by Derby’s Under 21s on the Oakwell Academy Complex this afternoon.
A starting eleven with a total of 52 first team appearances between them were seen off by their Midlands rivals in wintry conditions.
Reuben Noble-Lazarus, Danny Rose, Brad Kilburn and Toni Silva all had first half chances for Barnsley but it was Derby who forged ahead after 57 minutes when a mix up at the back saw the ball end up in the back of Ben Alnwick’s net, possibly off a Reds defender.
Derby then sealed the game after 71 minutes when John Rooney gave away a free-kick that Jamie Hanson hit perfectly from 22 yards out.
Reds starting XI: Alnwick, Stead, Scott, Kilburn, Jones, Patterson, Rooney, Silva, Rose, Noble-Lazarus, Knight.
Derby starting XI: Atkins; Hayes, Lelan, Hanson, Hoganson; Wixted, Smith, Dales, Jacobs; Doyle, Thomas.
