Barnsley’s hopes of re-signing Stoke City full-back Ryan Shotton on loan look to be over after the 21 year old was named in the Potters 25 man Premier League squad.
Under new Premier League rules, clubs can only select from a group of 25 players for the 2010-2011 season and with Shotton, who impressed during a 30 game spell at Oakwell last season, included in that, he is likely to be a firm part of manager Tony Pulis’ plans.
There was better news about another rumoured target- Chris Wood. The New Zealand international was not named in West Brom’s 25 man squad- only in their Under 21 contingent so Mark Robins may now move to bring him in on a short term basis.
