Barnsley FC Player Season Reports: 2008-2009

Last updated : 17 May 2009 By Rob Miles (barnsley Boy)

Jamil Adam:

League Appearances: 0

League Goals: 0

FA Cup 0(1)

League Cup: 0

Always regarded as a player with a big future but has failed to build on his substitute appearance on the final day of 2007-2008. Was brought off the bench in The Reds 3-0 FA Cup defeat at West Ham but that is all. N/A

Anderson
De Silva:

League Appearances: 32

League Goals: 2

FA Cup 0

League Cup: 0

2008-2009 saw the Brazilian recover from his knee injury and grab his first goals for the club. Due to the injury that ended his 2007-2008 season in February it has taken the cultured midfielder some time to find his best form. It seemed to be coming just as the 08-09 season was ending. C

Daniel Bogdanovic:

League Appearances: 13 (3)

League Goals: 5

FA Cup 0

League Cup: 0

"Boggy" has the chance to become a real fans favourite in the mould of Istvan Ferenczi after adapting seamlessly to English football. He was signed from
Malta in January and scored on his debut in a 2-1 defeat to Ipswich. He went on to bag five goals in just 13 starts. B

Jacob Butterfield:

League Appearances: 0 (3)

League Goals: 0

FA Cup 0(1)

League Cup: 0

Another player expected to feature prominintly this season but hasn't. Come off the bench four times- all defeats to West Ham,
Southampton, Norwich and Ipswich. With no reserve side next season it is hoped he can push for the first team in 09-10. E

Jamal Campbell-Ryce:

League Appearances: 39(1)

League Goals: 10

FA Cup 1

League Cup: 0

Started the season in scintillating form and has probably scored the most crucial goals of the season- against
Doncaster, Sheffield Wednesday (twice) and Plymouth. His form after Christmas dipped though due to Simon Davey's bizarre decision to pit him in the centre of midfield. On his day, on the wing he is unstoppable. B

Hugo Colace:

League Appearances: 30 (4)

League Goals: 0

FA Cup 1

League Cup: 0

A fine debut season for the cultured Argentinean whose work has gone unnoticed to fans outside of
Barnsley. Has provided a fantastic screen as a holding midfielder and it is no coincidence that Anderson has played MUCH better when Colace has been mopping up behind him. Third place in the Player of the Year vote was much deserved. B

Michael Coulson:

League Appearances: 0(2)

League Goals: 0

FA Cup 0(1)

League Cup: 0

You have to feel for the lad. He battled back from one cruciate knee ligament injury, only to suffer another in January which ended his season. Out of the three youngsters pushing for a place (Coulson, Adam, Butterfield) the striker is the most likely to make the grade. Hopefully back for mid-August. N/A
