A Look At The FA Cup Action

Last updated : 05 January 2013 By Rob Miles (BarnsleyBoy)

..............this win at Oakwell was their first at home for 12 matches- a club record- and also saw them claim their first clean sheet for 16 games.

It extends Burnley’s poor record at Oakwell. They have now won there now just once in 18 visits.

Barnsley have now progressed into the Fourth Round of the FA Cup for the first time since 2008. Back then when they embarked on their epic run to the Semi-Finals they won a Third Round tie at home……against a team beginning with B……. with a late goal….

This 85th minute strike was Danny Rose’s first ever-senior strike in his ninth appearance.

Unfortunately there were only 5,091 supporters there to see it, and 1,396 came from Burnley. It was the third lowest attendance out of the 29 Third Round fixtures played today. Only Aldershot v Rotherham (2,992) and Macclesfield v Cardiff (3,165) had less but the capacities of those respective grounds are only 7,100 and  6,355.

It is Barnsley’s lowest attendance for any home game since just 4,331 turned up for a 2-0 defeat to Morecambe in the League Cup in August 2011. Indeed it is The Reds lowest FA Cup home attendance since a 2-0 defeat to Southend in a Third Round replay in 2007 when just 4,944 were there.

Jim McNulty was booked today, for the third successive game.
