………………Barnsley went into this match looking for their eighth home win in nine games under David Flitcroft but instead suffered their heaviest EVER league defeat in the Football League! It is their biggest home defeat in all competitions for 16 years, when they were hit for six by Chelsea in the Premier League in August 1997.
Barnsley ended the game with nine men following the sending offs of Stephen Dawson and Tom Kennedy. Before today The Reds had suffered only one league red card this season- to Bobby Hassell back in August. It was Dawson’s second red card of his career; his first was for Bury in 2009. It is the first red that Kennedy has ever received.
Today was also the first time the Reds have failed to score at Oakwell under Flitcroft.
Amazingly Barnsley had played five top seven teams in their previous six matches, winning three and drawing two. Today a team who were 12th before the game hammered them.
