Pencil in your diaries the week commencing 17th October 2005 and then rub it out!
First off on Tuesday 18th October The Reds are smashed 5-2 at home to arch rivals Doncaster Rovers in the LDV Van Trophy.
Then Thursday 20th October, news filters through of record losses of just over £3.5m
And now boss Andy Ritchie gets knocked back in his quest for a defender on loan. The poor man must wonder what he’s done to deserve this! Ritchie had been enquiring to get cover for the injured Paul Reid and the injury prone Matt Carbon.
This need was highlighted ever further with the makeshift defence of Neil Austin, Bobby Hassell, Antony Kay and Robbie Williams being torn apart by the men from Belle Vue.
Unfortunately Ritchie’s search took a knock back when he enquired about an unnamed player from Sunderland.
Ritchie told the Official Site: “ We had a knock back when we enquired about a defender up at Sunderland because they are not willing to let him come out on loan at the moment. We are still looking and have four or five calls in with different clubs so we will have to wait and see although we are now looking at someone new for the Rotherham game.
We will not be bringing anyone in to take to Southend because we would not have had time to work with them before the game. Matt Carbon will be travelling with us to Southend and he has a good chance of being fit for the game.
We would not be taking him with us if that was not the case although if his injury follows the same pattern then I would expect him to be doubtful for Tuesday night’s trip to Rotherham. That is why we are looking to get a new face in before we go to Millmoor
