Barnsley defender Scott Wiseman is set to feature in the qualifiers for Euro 2016 after pledging his allegiance to Gibraltar.
The small island is located on the edge of the Mediterranean and has a population of around 29,752- only 6,743 more than the capacity of Oakwell Stadium, but it has been granted UEFA membership this year which means it can now compete in official UEFA registered competitions.
Wiseman, 28, qualifies for Gibraltar as his mum was born there and his agent Lee Philpott told SKY Sports:
"His mother was born there and as soon as they were granted UEFA status, it obviously becomes important,"
"I made contact with the Gibraltar manager and everything has gone from there.
"Scott wants to play and now we are just waiting for all the confirmation to come through."
Whilst Gibraltar’s coach Allen Bula said:
"We have been looking and to get a defender of Scott's calibre is fantastic,"
"My main targets have been defenders, and we got Danny and now to add Scott to the calibre of players we already have is great news for Gibraltar."
