Just 24 hours after Barnsley axed David Flitcroft, their fellow South Yorkshire neighbours and relegation dwellers Sheffield Wednesday have parted company with Dave Jones.
The 57 year old former Southampton and Cardiff boss took over the reigns at Hillsborough on the 2nd of March last year after the surprise axing of Gary Megson and with the club sitting third in League One.
He led them to promotion that year as they won 10 of their final 12 matches to take the final automatic promotion place. Jones then kept the Owls in the Championship last season, finishing 18th, four points above the drop zone.
However like Barnsley, they have endured a torrid start to the 2013-2014 season and, also like The Reds, have picked up just 11 points albeit from only 16 games. The Owls have managed just one win and are the only club in the Football League without a clean sheet this season.
Meanwhile in the Premier League, Fulham have axed manager Martin Jol today.
