Goalkeeper Ben Alnwick has had his Barnsley contract mutually terminated after just over a year at the club.
The 26-year-old joined last summer after leaving Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur but has only made 12 appearances for the Reds, all coming under former manager Keith Hill.
The Reds last week brought in veteran stopper Mike Pollitt which put Alnwick's position as number 2 under scrutiny, and after he was left out of the 18-man squad for Saturday's 2-1 win over Huddersfield, he has left the club.
