Another Gray Day At Oakwell

Last updated : 16 September 2009 By Rob Miles (barnsley Boy)

New Barnsley boss Mark Robins has wasted little time in getting stuck into the squad and less than 24 hours after celebrating his first victory as boss, he has announced his first signing.

Winger Julian Gray has arrived on a free transfer. The speedy Gray has a decent record against Barnsley having scored for former club Coventry in both games against The Reds in the 2007-2008 season.

Gray, 29, was released by the Sky Blues in the summer and therefore is able to sign outside the transfer window.

Robins told
www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:

"Julian will bring a lot of pace into our side. He can play at left back but normally operates in front of that and has bags of experience in the Championship and Premier League.

"He will come in initially on a monthly deal and will add a lot to our squad".

It is a case of one in and out after Robins also sent misfiring striker Kayode Odejayi into League One with a loan move to Colchester United.

Odejayi, despite scoring the FA Cup winner over Chelsea, has had a torrid two years at Oakwell and was loaned out to Scunthorpe last season.

He has scored just five times in 82 appearances and he has failed to shine this season. The 27 year old was booed ONTO the pitch in the 3-1 defeat to Reading which ended Simon Davey's reign as manager and then last weekend, Odejayi was brought on after 28 minutes but then subbed off 51 minutes later.

Robins continued:

"Kayode needs to kick start his career. He will go to Colchester for an initial three months and we will take it from there".

There could be one more arrival before the weekend as Robins has also drafted in a defender on trial.

6ft 3 Slovenian international Suad Filekovic has arrived at Oakwell after his release from NK Maribor.

Filekovic, who has also played in
Russia, Belgium, Croatia and Greece has won 14 caps for Slovenia since making his debut in 2002.

Robins told
www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:

"Suad is in with us and we will run the rule over him this week. He is 6'3" with a good left foot and can play in the middle of defence or at full back. He is an international with lots of experience so we will have a closer look at him".
