Appleby released by Latics

Former Reds favourite Matty Appleby could be forced to retire after being given a free transfer by Oldham Athletic.

Appleby missed all of last season because of injury and could struggle to find a new club in the current climate.

Oldham have also released fellow ex-Red Darren Sheridan.

Meanwhile, former Reds winger Stephen Carson has been released by Hartlepool United.
