Reds youngster Neil Austin has pledged his future to his hometown club by singing a new contract.
Barnsley chairman Peter Ridsdale told the official site: "We've made it absolutely clear that we want to see a nucleus of homegrown players develop in the squad here"
"Neil was delighted to hear that manager Paul Hart sees a bright future for him at Oakwell and he wants to be part of our plans for the future.
"Many people have been simply focusing on the new signings we're aiming to make this summer.
"Ensuring the likes of Neil and Antony Kay stay with us, as well as the younger lads like Dale Tonge, Tom Baker and Robbie Williams, is also an important issue.
"We'll keep working away to tie up all the loose ends."
