Barnsley have been hit by a bizarre FA charge of improper conduct over criticism of a referee in one of the website’s match report.
In the Hull v Barnsley report for Saturday 15th January 2011, referee Peter Quinn- who was officiating at Championship level for the first time- was described as “shocking and ridiculous” after a few dubious decisions which led to a penalty going against Barnsley and red cards for defenders Stephen Foster and Jason Shackell.
This has led to a first ever FA charge against a club’s website with the governing body claiming it is “duty bound to investigate following a complaint from a member of the public”
The club is yet to reveal its response.
