Barnsley and Dale Jennings have today parted company despite the winger still having a year of his three-year contract remaining.
The 22 year old was hailed as a major signing when he arrived in a £250,000 move from German giants Bayern Munich in June 2013 but he has struggled with his fitness and weight throughout his two year spell at the club, restricting him to just 51 appearances.
Jennings also had the unique honour of being sent off on the first day of each of the past two seasons, including his debut, a 4-0 defeat to Wigan in August 2013.
He found his best form under Danny Wilson towards the end of the 2013-2014 campaign after returning from a loan spell at MK Dons and played in all of the final 22 matches, scoring in three of the six games Barnsley won during that time.
However Wilson voiced concerns over the former Tranmere youngster’s fitness when he returned for pre-season last summer.
As previously mentioned he saw red again on the opening day in a 1-0 defeat to Crawley and made only a further 23 appearances last season, only two of which came under current Head Coach Lee Johnson.
The club and player today decided to terminate his deal by mutual consent.
