The Reds are looking at VVV-Venlo midielder John van Loenhout according to Sky Sports.
Barnsley linked with another Dutchman
He's contracted to VVV until summer 2005 but admits he may be interested in a switch to England.
"I hope that there is some clarity to the situation soon," he stated to Dagblad De Limburger.
However the club have yet to contact the club officially.
"Honestly I hope they don't contact us," stated a VVV board member in Hans Seuntjes.
"Van Loenhout is a very important player who we would like to keep."
Reds manager Paul Hart has said the club are looking around Europe for new players after scouring the domestic market.
"We knew there was the likelihood of major changes on the playing staff so soon after taking over at Oakwell I asked my scouting network to initially target the British-based players we should be looking at," said Hart to the official website.

"I feel we have a good idea of the domestic scene and the players we see as fitting into our plans.
"But it would be wrong of us not to look further afield and since the end of the domestic season I've travelled into Europe watching players and I've asked my chief scout, Martin Wilkinson, to take an intensive view of the continental market."
