Interesting Stats:
This will be Barnsley’s first meeting with the new Chester who were formed in 2010 after the demise of Chester City.
The last time The Reds faced them was 33 years ago back in April 1981.
Barnsley have won just two of their last 13 meetings with Chester.
The two sides have met three times in the FA Cup, with Chester winning two of them including a 5-2 thumping at Oakwell back in January 1965.
There is some Barnsley connection in the current Chester side. 20-year-old striker Rhys Oates is on loan at the Deva Stadium from Oakwell and is therefore ineligible to play tomorrow. He has netted twice times in six appearances for Chester.
One man set to play is 23-year-old midfielder John Rooney, brother of Manchester United and England striker Wayne who was signed by then Barnsley manager Keith Hill in 2012 but left less than 12 months later having failed to make an appearance.
To say Chester have risen from the ashes of Chester City would be an understatement. They won successive promotions in 2011, 2012 and 2013 to reach the Conference but were only saved from relegation last season by Hereford’s expulsion for financial reasons.
2014-2015 has followed a similar pattern to Barnsley’s start in League One with both sides lying in midtable in their respective leagues.
There should be a winner in tomorrow’s game because Chester tend to either win (10 times) or lose (11 times), they have only been involved in three draws this season.
Chester have advanced to the Second Round of the FA Cup by winning two away matches, 4-2 at Stockport and then 2-1 at Southend in the First Round.
They have though won just five of their 26 away matches this season.
This is the furthest Chester have been in the FA Cup since reforming and the first time any Chester team has reached the second round since 2006-2007.
They have not reached the Third Round since 2000-2001 whilst Barnsley have at least been in the Third Round in each of the last eight seasons, seven of which they did not enter the competition until this stage.
