Interesting Stats:

Barnsley and Leyton Orient meet this weekend for the first time in nearly 33 years.

They have met just four times in the past 45 years.

Both sides have won 22 of the 53 meetings, and Leyton Orient have a good goal scoring record against Barnsley bagging 81 in those 53 games, an average over over one and a half goals per game.

However their record at Oakwell is not as impressive. Barnsley have won 19 of the 26 clashes here, losing just three.

Two of those defeats have come in the last four clashes here and Barnsley have won just one of those four.

In the most recent clashes the team that wins the first meeting has tended to go on and do the double. This has happened in two of the last three seasons they have clashed with the other one seeing two draws.

Orient’s last win at Oakwell was 45 years ago in 1969, however they have only visited once since then

Tomorrow will be the 53rd league meeting between the sides, but only the fifth in the third tier. 48 of the previous 52 were in the second tier.

Back in May Leyton Orient were 2-0 up in the League One Play-Off Final and looked like they were coasting towards English football’s second tier for the first time in 33 years.

Fast forward seven months and the O’s could be set to finally leave League One…. But in the wrong direction as they sit in the relegation zone, three points adrift of safety.

Like Barnsley, it is Orient’s home form that is holding them back, as they won just once at Brisbane Road but have managed three victories and just three defeats on the road.

However they have lost each of their last five away games in all competitions and they come into this game on the back of three successive defeats in all competitions.

Orient have won just two of their last ten matches, losing seven.

Overall the O’s have won just four of their 20 league matches this season, the joint worst record in the division (they won 13 of their first 20 last season and were top of the league)

Fabio Liverani has only been in charge of the London based outfit since the 8th of December and this will be only his second game in charge.
