Rochdale manager Keith Hill said:
“The lads and the football club come out with a lot of credit for the way that we that we played the game against, what I still consider to be, Premier League opposition, apart from the first 12 minutes or so where we looked as though we got caught in the head-lights.
“You’ve got to give respect to the opposition but I think we gave too much respect and space. We slightly misinterpreted the tactics, but once we got past that stage I thought we were excellent value for at least a draw.
Interesting Stats
These two sides are inseparable… at Spotland. The Reds’ 1-0 win there last October made it eight wins apiece at Rochdale’s home since 1920 and 29 goals each.
The Reds have won three of their last four trips to Rochdale and have lost only one of the last seven.
Overall these two sides have met just six times in the last 36 years.
Barnsley have won five and lost three of the last eight meetings but they have won 23 of 42 overall compared to Rochdale’s 10.
There has been just one draw in the last 12 clashes.
Out of the last 19 goals scored in Barnsley/Rochdale clashes, 13 have been scored after half -time.
In the last 11 meetings that have produced a winner only two have produced goals for both teams.
Last season Barnsley did the league double over Rochdale for only the third time ever.
After narrowly failing to make the League One play-offs last season following promotion from League Two, Rochdale opened this campaign with three straight victories in all competitions (albeit one on penalties) but have failed to win any of the next three, losing two.
The Dale have also failed to score in their past two outings, the first time they have gone back to back games without a goal since last November.
They have not gone three games without a goal since April 2014.
Keith Hill’s side have conceded only two goals in their opening four league matches this season, the joint best defensive record in the division.
