Boggy Turns Down New Deal

The adoration that exists between striker Daniel Bogdanovic and the Oakwell faithful is set to be severely tested over the next two weeks after the club’s top scorer turned down what the club called “a substantially improved contract” after news broke that three other Championship clubs have enquired about the Maltese international who is available on a free transfer this summer.

Bogdanovic has bagged 14 goals this season to make him the club’s highest scoring striker since Michael Chopra hit 18 in 2004-2005, and has strung up a strong rapport with the fans since arriving from Lokomotiv Sofia in January 2009 for £100,000. But that love is set to be tested after the striker turned down the club’s offer of a new deal after he was unhappy with the money on offer.

Director Don Rowing told the Sheffield Star:

"Daniel refused a very good contract. We've reviewed our offer more than once, but Daniel didn't want to sign it. It is disappointing. He wants more money than we are prepared to offer at this stage. We have to be prudent; at no stage would we compromise the position of the club.

"Daniel has done really well and scored some important goals, but the deal has to be right for both parties."
