Former Barnsley captain Jacob Butterfield has signed for Championship rivals Bolton on a months loan.
Some reports online suggested Butterfield may be tempted to rejoin the Reds after he left in the summer for Norwich City, for whom he has made just two Capital One Cup appearances, and Reds boss Keith Hill confirmed he had enquired about the midfielder, but now he has joined the recently relegated Trotters.
He came up through the ranks at Oakwell and made exactly 100 appearances for Barnsley, scoring eight goals. Seven of which were in the first half of last season.
His last appearance in a Barnsley shirt came in the 4-1 drubbing of Leeds on New Years Eve last year, being stretchered off after 12 minutes after a shocking tackle from Michael Brown. He was replaced by Ricardo Vaz Te, who went on to bag a hat-trick.
Meanwhile, Reds manager Keith Hill has revealed that he was gazumped by Huddersfield to the signing of Reading striker Simon Church.
