Brazilian arrives on trial

Just like watching Brazil at Oakwell? Not really.......well with Chelsea's Brazilian defender Gustavo training with a view to a loan move things could be looking up.

The 19-year-old has been outstanding for Chelsea's reserves this season.

Gudjon Thordarson told the Official Barnsley website: "Our clear club policy is to promote from within and offer the homegrown players from our Academy the chance to progress into the first team.

"I have nothing but praise for the way the likes of Brian O'Callaghan, Antony Kay and Neil Austin have responded to every challenge they've been set this season. They are doing well.

"Unfortunately Anthony is suspended at the weekend and with skipper Pete Handysides facing a few weeks on the sidelines with his ankle injury I felt it wise to look outside our club for solutions to our defensive problems.

"I am one of many managers who have seen Gustavo play well for the Chelsea reserves this season. We have monitored his progress and I feel it speaks volumes for the way Barnsley FC is viewed that Chelsea are happy for Gustavo to further his football education with us.

"We have good contacts in the game and I'm pleased that when we need help or information many managers and coaches are so keen to help us."
