Bristol Fancy Some Silva

Barnsley have been faced with their first battle to keep one of their stars after it was revealed that Bristol City have had a bid for Brazilian midfielder Anderson De Silva turned down.

De Silva who signed at Oakwell, originally on loan, from Everton was a revelation in 2007-2008 before suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in February 2008. He returned in September but it took him a few months to regain his form before enjoying a flourish towards the end of the season.

This late season form has tempted City boss Gary Johnson to table a bid as he looks to get the 2007 beaten Play-Off Finalists into the top flight for the first time in nearly 30 years.

Reds boss Simon Davey though told BBC Radio Sheffield the bid was quickly rebuffed but admitted he had set a price on the playmaker's head.

"We've given them a figure and they'll come back or not come back.

"At the moment, it's not right for the club to sell Anderson."
