Burton Departs After A Decade

Last updated : 06 September 2017 By Rob Miles

Mark Burton has today ended his long association with Barnsley to “pursue other interests”

The 44 year old who was born in the town, captained his home team at every level including the first team where he played seven times in the early 1990s. For the last ten years he has coached the club’s academy starting the careers of stars such as John Stones, Mason Holgate and James Bree. Burton also had a three game caretaker spell in charge of the first team following the sacking of Danny Wilson in 2015, where he started with a 5-1 defeat at Crawley before a 2-0 win over Crewe and 1-0 win at Scunthorpe, returning to the academy when Lee Johnson was appointed.

It has not been revealed whether Burton’s other interests relate to football or not.
