Goalkeeper Jack Butland has been named captain of the England Under 21’s for their European Championship Qualifiers against San Marino and Lithuania.
The 20 year old who is on loan at Oakwell from Stoke City until Boxing Day takes the captain from Andre Wisdom who serves a four-match suspension.
Manager Gareth Southgate said:
“Jack Butland will be captain,”
“First and foremost, his professionalism and his standing within the group is very high.
“He is our most experienced player, he has obviously played for the seniors, and, around the squad, I think he is a very good influence.
“He connects well with all of the squad and I think that is important.”
