Team News

Reds boss Mark Robins is forced into one change for the visit of winless Ipswich. Anderson De Silva suffered a hamstring injury in the fine 3-1 win over West Brom on Tuesday, and he could be replaced by Julian Gray who replaced him in that game. Apart from that no changes are likely after a good result and performance. Bartosz Bialkowski is likely to play his second and final game, with Luke Steele and David Preece both expected to be fir after the international break. Captain Stephen Foster is set for his 100th Barnsley appearance.

Likely Line-Up:

Bartosz Bialkowski

Carl Dickinson

Stephen Foster

Darren Moore

Ryan Shotton

Adam Hammill

Nathan Doyle

Hugo Colace

Julian Gray

Jon Macken

Iain Hume

Head to Head

Whilst Barnsley have a horrid record at Portman Road, it's a pretty tight history between these two sides at Oakwell. They have met there 16 times, with Barnsley notching nine wins and Ipswich six- including last season's encounter. There has only been one draw at Oakwell and that came during an epic in the 1995-1996 season. The Reds led 3-1 with just five minutes remaining but ended up drawing 3-3. These two sides also met in the Division One Play-Off Final of 1999-2000. Ipswich had beaten The Reds 6-1 at Portman Road and 2-0 at Oakwell during the regular season before making it a hat-trick at Wembley with a 4-2 scoreline. Barnsley had taken the lead through Craig Hignett but Darren Barnard missed a crucial penalty right on half time with the scores at 1-1.

Ipswich plundered all six point last season. They strolled to a 3-0 win in Suffolk last September when goal-keeper Heinz Muller made two howlers and Reuben Noble-Lazarus began the youngest player in Football League history. The Tractor Boys completed the double in January winning 2-1 despite Daniel Bogdanovic scoring a debut goal for the Reds. This though was their first home defeat to Town since returning to the Championship. They won 1-0 in 2006-2007 in Simon Davey's first game as caretaker manager- Grant McCann scoring a debut goal in the 90th minute. They won 4-1 in 2007-2008 with Brian Howard bagging a hat-trick. This win came just three days after the famous FA Cup win over Chelsea.

This Season

It has been a disastrous start to the season for Ipswich Town. The 10 game winless run is their worst start to a season ever and their longest winless run since 2001. It has heaped pressure on manager Roy Keane who stated a two year plan to get the club into the Premier League in the summer. Town and Darlington are the only winless sides in the Football League and the Tractor Boys record is five draws and five defeats. They were in South Yorkshire on Tuesday when they played Sheffield United and they were desperately close to that elusive first win. Ipswich led 3-1 with 13 minutes to go but ended up drawing 3-3 with a certain Chris Morgan grabbing the Blades equaliser in the third minute of injury time. The 22 goals they have conceded is the worst defensive record in the Championship, Barnsley have the second worst.

Barnsley moved out of the relegation zone on Tuesday when they recorded their first home league win since March. It was also only their third win in the last 19 league games and only the second time they had won by one than one goal in 2009.
