Coca-Cola Championship Matchday Four: Leicester City v Barnsley

Team News

Reds boss Simon Davey is still frustrated at being without O'Neil Thompson, Emil Halfredsson and Andy Gray. International clearance has still not arrived for Thompson and Halfredsson whilst Gray's move is being impeded by Charlton's transfer embargo. Rob Kozluk is available again however after suspension, and is likely to replace Luke Potter who had a torrid night against Preston. Darren Moore should be fit despite a long standing foot problem. The giant centre half has not trained since the 7th August but is getting through games with pain killing injections. Iain Hume is likely to make his first return to the Walkers Stadium since leaving for Oakwell in a £1.2m deal in the summer of 2008.

Likely Line-Up:

Luke Steele

Rob Kozluk

Stephen Foster

Darren Moore

Bobby Hassell

Adam Hammill

Anderson De Silva

Jacob Butterfield

Jamal Campbell-Ryce

Daniel Bogdanovic

Iain Hume

Head to Head

Barnsley have a torrid record against the Foxes, and have lost the last six meetings, without scoring a goal. In fact at Oakwell, Leicester have won more meetings than The Reds- 18 to 15. In 2006-2007 and 2007-2008, they met at Oakwell in late April with both teams fighting relegation- on both occasions the Foxes triumphed 1-0. A Neil Austin own goal on the 28th April 2007 (the final home game of the season) was enough, but Leeds loss at home to Ipswich was enough to keep The Reds up, and on the 19th April 2008 a certain Iain Hume plundered the points for Ian Holloway's side. Barnsley defeated Charlton 3-0 to stave off the drop, but Leicester lost 3-1 at home to Sheffield Wednesday (with Hume scoring and missing a penalty) and a 0-0 draw at Stoke on the final day condemned them to League One.

Barnsley have never won at the Walkers Stadium- albeit they have only played there twice, losing 2-0 in December 2006 and October 2007. Their last ever visit to Filbert Street was a pretty sombre occasion too- in May 1998 The Reds were defeated 1-0 and relegated from the Premier League. Barnsley's last victory at Leicester came way back in March 1994 when a strike from Andy Payton earned a 1-0 win- Leicester had the last laugh that year by winning promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs. Unfortunately you have to go further back for an Oakwell victory- 3-1 in September 1991.

This Season

Leicester are currently riding the crest of a wave and have been defeated just four times in their last 50 league games. The Foxes stormed to the League One title last season under Nigel Pearson and lost just four times- they are still undefeated this year- beating Swansea 2-1 and drawing 0-0 with Ipswich and 1-1 with Sheffield United on Tuesday.

Things couldn't be much more different for Barnsley. Manager Simon Davey received calls for his sacking during the 3-0 home defeat to Preston on Tuesday night. The Reds are winless this campaign and have lost two of their three games. Due to goal-difference they are propping up the league.
