Last Season
Both teams were struggling against relegation from the Coca-Cola Championship in 2007-2008, with QPR eventually finishing 14th, six points clear of the drop and Barnsley finishing 18th, three points clear of relegation. So why, you may ask, can QPR be 2/1 to gain promotion to the Premier League (second favourites) and Barnsley be 25/1 (second longest odds). There is one simply answer, or rather three. Bernie Ecclestone, Flavio Briatore and Lakshmi Mittal who bought QPR last year and have combined personal fortunes of a staggering £49.15bn, making QPR, theatrically the richest club in the world. Under new manager Iain Dowie, the R's are expected to gain promotion back to the Premier League after a 12 year absence. Barnsley meanwhile are simply expected to survive!
