Interesting Stats:
Tomorrow’s encounter will be the third time the two sides have met on a Sunday in the last three years. It was a warm Sunday afternoon in April 2008 when they met at Wembley in the FA Cup Semi-Finals. Unfortunately an early goal from Joe Ledley and a shocking miss from Kayode Odejayi ended Barnsley’s epic cup run.
They again met on a Sunday, just a month later in the final game of the 2007-2008 season but again Cardiff were victorious thumping The Reds 3-0 at Ninian Park with Paul Parry, Kevin McNaughton and Ledley on target.
Barnsley have not won on a Sunday since a 2-1 win at Plymouth on the final day of the 2008-2009 season.
Cardiff, who have lost their last two matches- 2-0 to Ipswich and 1-0 to Crystal Palace, have not lost three games on the bounce since November 2009 and ironically two of those reverses were to Ipswich and Barnsley.
Barnsley though who ended a six game winless run with a 2-1 win over Scunthorpe on Tuesday have not registered back to back victories since November and have won just one of their last nine on the road.
If the game ends in a draw it would be the 400th points Cardiff have won under manager Dave Jones and the 100th Barnsley have won under Mark Robins- Along with Simon Davey and Dave Bassett he would be only the third Reds manager to achieve that feat since the Danny Wilson days.
Barnsley are set to meet two ex players- Stephen McPhail and Michael Chopra. Chopra, who still remains the last Red to score more than 15 goals in a season and the last to score a hat-trick, will make his 200th career league start if selected.
