Early Reds Team News
Barnsley face a mini injury crisis as Coventry City visit for the first home game of the season for the second year running. Marciano Van Homoet was already out serving his second game of a three-match ban but the Dutchman also has a groin strain. Bobby Hassell is also a major doubt with an ankle injury. This leaves The Reds desperately short of players for the defensive midfield role with Anderson De Silva injured, Hugo Colace STILL awaiting international clearance (FIFA have given the Argentinean FA until today) and Sam Togwell having departed for Scunthorpe yesterday. Winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce will also be out longer than expected. He has missed the first two games with a dislocated elbow but Reds boss Simon Davey also revealed today that the Jamaican international has a small fracture in his ankle. Fellow winger Mounir El Haimour is still struggling with his calf injury as Barnsley go in search of their first win of the season.

Head to Head
Things certainly do not look promising for The Reds tomorrow. In four of the last five meetings with Coventry, The Sky Blues have plundered FOUR goals including a 4-1 drubbing in the first game at Oakwell last season. Barnsley have also failed to register a victory against Coventry since both sides were in the Premier League. One crumb of comfort for The Reds is that Coventry have only won five times in 23 visits to Oakwell, but that does include the last two.

This Season
Coventry, who finished just one place and one point above the relegation zone last season have made a 100% start to 2008-2009. On the opening day of the Championship season they defeated Norwich City 2-0 at the Ricoh Arena courtesy of goals from Elliott Ward and Leon McKenzie and then they progressed into the Second Round of the Carling Cup on Wednesday night when they defeated League Two new boys Aldershot 3-1 with goals from Clinton Morrison and a brace from Robbie Simpson.
Barnsley meanwhile have started in the opposite direction with two defeats from two. A 2-1 league reverse at Queens Park Rangers last Saturday was followed on Tuesday night by an embarrassing 2-0 cup defeat to League One Crewe. It was the first time The Reds had exited the League Cup in the First Round for five years.
