The exodus at Oakwell seems no sign of abating after last season’s 15-goal top scorer Chris O’Grady signed for Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion today.
The 28 year old who struck 21 times in 59 appearances for The Reds after arriving from Sheffield Wednesday, initially on loan in 2013, has agreed a three year deal with the Seagulls after the two sides agreed an “undisclosed” fee believed to be in the region of £750,000.
It had appeared O’Grady would remain at Oakwell for the 2014-2015 campaign after rejecting a move to Charlton but Brighton, who have been in the Championship play-offs in each of the last two seasons, moved for the Nottingham born striker after selling their own top scorer Leonardo Ulloa to Premier League new boys Leicester City for £7m last night.
With the proceeds from the O’Grady sale, The Reds could now make an improved bid for Scunthorpe striker Sam Winnall. They have already had one bid rejected for the 2013-2014 League Two top scorer.
