Barnsley have been stung by the news they will have to pay a compensation fee for striker Kane Hemmings.
The 22 year old joined The Reds last week after his contract with Scottish Championship side Cowdenbeath expired.
However because the former Rangers man who netted 29 goals in 34 games in 2013-2014 is under the age of 24, the “selling club” are due a compensation fee.
Barnsley themselves have benefited from this rule before with Jacob Butterfield and could do again this summer if Jacob Mellis decides to leave.
Cowdenbeath Chief Executive Alex Anderson told the Cowdenbeath Courier:
“As Kane is 22 we are due compensation and discussions are now under way between the two clubs.
“He is free to join any club but the under-23 rule means that compensation has to be paid to Cowdenbeath and this issue still has to be resolved."
