Barry Conlon will undergo an exploratory operation on his groin at the end of the week.
Conlon has been struggling with the injury for several months, but despite various visits to different specialists he is still no nearer to a diagnosis.
Paul Hart told the club's official website: "He's seen three specialists and they're still not sure what it is.
"He'll have the operation to discover the problem, although it could be a double hernia.
"The best-case scenario is that it's a hernia and that would mean three or four weeks out."
