Everton obviously know a thing or two about good young England defenders after whisking John Stones away from Oakwell and now they have allowed 18 year old Callum Connolly to join The Reds on a one-month loan deal.
Barnsley have been in need of some full back reinforcements following injuries to Aidy White and James Bree and now Connolly will remain at Oakwell until the 3rd April.
Connolly can play in either full back positions as well as in midfield and has featured for the England Under 17’s side where he was part of a Young Lions’ squad that played in the 2014 Algarve tournament.
A Scouser from birth Connolly has been with the Everton Academy since the age of nine and was part of their 2013-2014 title winning side before signing his first professional contract at Goodison Park in July 2015.
The Reds caretaker head coach Paul Heckingbottom told Barnsley’s official website:
"Callum is exactly the type of player we were looking for and I'm delighted Everton have allowed us to take him on board,"
"We're excited to have him here and I'm sure he will help our cause, just as I'm sure we can help his development as a player.
"We have a good relationship with Everton and they have entrusted us with one of their highly-rated youngsters. We're both confident this is the perfect environment for him to begin his professional career."
