Interesting Stats:
Barnsley have an awful record at Coventry, having won just two of their 27 trips, the last of which came 91 years ago!
However Coventry are now being forced to play their home games at Northampton’s Sixfields Stadium and Barnsley have won a grand total of… ONCE at Northampton in 11 trips.
The Sky Blues have won each of the last three “home” meetings with The Reds and nine out of the last 10.
The last time Barnsley played Coventry away from home, The Reds current captain Martin Cranie was in the Sky Blues team.
Coventry’s 1-0 victory over Barnsley’s South Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United at the weekend was their first win in 10 matches. The goal was credited as an own goal but the last Coventry touch came from Jim O’Brien who left Oakwell this summer after four years and 113 appearances.
Incidentally O’Brien netted the last time these two sides met, for Barnsley in a 2-1 FA Cup defeat back in January.
Coventry have won just two of their last seven matches at Sixfields.
It is four years since the Sky Blues last won both their first two home matches of the season and they have managed it just once in the past 12 years.
Barnsley have lost each of their last five home matches but have won four of their last seven on the road!
It is eight years since The Reds last won both their first two away matches of a season. In 2006 they came from two goals behind to win 3-2 at Hull and followed it up by overturning a 1-0 deficit to win 2-1 at Colchester.
