Arsenal have recalled Dan Crowley from his loan spell at Oakwell two months early, the club has confirmed.
The Premier League giants allowed the 18-year-old midfielder, who is dubbed as the next Jack Wilshere, to join the Reds on loan in August, on a deal that would have run until January.
Injuries to Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in Tuesday's game at Sheffield Wednesday have prompted Arsene Wenger to bring Crowley back to the Emirates as cover.
Crowley made 13 appearances for Barnsley in his three months at Oakwell, scoring his first professional goal in the 5-3 Capital One Cup defeat to Everton in August.
Reds boss Lee Johnson praised the youngster, and said he is "one of, if not the most talented 18-year-old he had ever seen".
