Peter Doyle has recently held talks with ISOFT Chief Executive Patrick Cryne, with a view to the latter taking over "the football side of the business".
In paying £2.8m to take the club out of administration, Doyle split the club into two companies - one controlling the footballing side and one controlling the club's physical assets.
Cryne told the Yorkshire Post "Peter Doyle indicated to my advisers that he may be prepared to exit from the footballing side, but it was unclear as to what he would be selling".
Lifelong supporter Cryne has twice attempted to invest in the club: his proposed cash injection was rejected by the Board last season and his "verbal offer" to purchase the club was turned down by the administrators.
Doyle's intentions have been subject to considerable scrutiny by Barnsley fans, who are suspicious of his decision to mortgage off some of the land around Oakwell to the so-called "Sterling Consortium". In addition, some of the club's debts remain unpaid and both the FA & the Football League have yet to ratify the takeover.
This has been a time of great unrest at Oakwell, and the situation has not been helped by Doyle's recent threats to walk away from the club. In this light, Cryne's involvement would no doubt appease many supporters.
