Reds boss Simon Davey suffered a double miss today. First of all he was pipped to the Coca-Cola Championship Manager of the Month award and then failed to get a mention on Calendar that Saturday's game with Sheffield United will be his 100th game in charge of the Reds… and yet Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws got a lovely piece as he also reaches that milestone at Hillsborough this weekend!
Davey was nominated for the Manager of the Month after watching his Barnsley side gain 10 points from October but was beaten to the award by Cardiff City's Dave Jones' whose side scooped 11 points and were undefeated. This was probably best however as no club wants the "curse" that seems to be saddled with winning the Manager of the Month award- as the team whose manager wins usually has a terrible following month.
But it is the complete snub by the Calendar news programme that will probably have riled most Barnsley supporters. Most of the local TV and radio news programmes have been accused of biased towards the Sheffield clubs and Calendar seemed to prove it tonight.
Davey and Laws will both celebrate 100 games in charge of their respective clubs this weekend. They both took over in November 2006 with Laws leaving Scunthorpe for Wednesday 16 days before Davey was promoted from Academy Manager at Oakwell to replace Andy Ritchie. But whilst Calendar did a massive presentation about Laws including an interview with Laws himself, Davey got NO mention whatsoever.
Maybe Calendar are still sore about the hammering The Reds dished out to Wednesday last month!
