Reds boss Simon Davey has hinted at playing three Academy graduates in our final Championship game of the season.
Jacob Butterfield is said to be in line for a start, which would hand the 17-year-old his full debut. Two other youngsters, Reuben Lazarus, still at the U15 level and Jamil Adam, a proven goalscorer in the Reserves and the Academy are also thought to be in line for an appearance.
Davey commented on Butterfield, who has made four substitute appearances for the Reds, one being at Newcastle in the Carling Cup last August and a five minute run-out at Wembley:
"Jacob has been on the bench in recent weeks and he will have his opportunity for some more time on the pitch at Cardiff City".
Lazarus has stepped up the the U18s this season and has done well:
"We have a young lad here, Reuben, who we are thinking of taking to Cardiff this weekend. He is still an U15 so maybe this season has come a year too soon for him but it is something we are still definitely thinking about."
And Jamil Adam, who won the Academy Player Of The Year on Saturday:
"Jamil has done very well for the reserves and for the Academy this season. He will come down to Cardiff with us this weekend and could have the opportunity to get some time on the pitch".
We wish all three players well.
Meanwhile, Simon Heslop has returned to Oakwell after a season long loan at Halifax ended. Heslop made 33 appearances and scored five goals for the Shaymen, who missed relegation to Blue Square North by the skin of their teeth.
Heslop has clocked up 93 appearances at Conference level with Kidderminster Harriers, Tamworth, Northwich Victoria and Halifax. His only Reds appearance was in the 7-0 defeat to West Brom on the final day of last season.
