Reds boss Glyn Hodges is hopeful of persuading Player of the Year Bruce Dyer to take a wage cut and stay at the club.
D-Day for Dyer
"I spoke to Bruce on Wednesday and I'm seeing him again on Monday," Hodges said.
"Bruce said he wants to stay and play for Barnsley, but unfortunately we're not in the First Division and I don't know what he's thinking.

"Bruce signed for us when we were in the Premiership (actually, he didn't) and he would obviously have to take a drop in wages if he's to stay.
"We're still waiting for some money to come through from our investors, I just hope we have time to get together again with Bruce and sort out a package that is acceptable."
Dyer has been linked with a move to his former club Watford where Ray Lewington is "reasonably hopeful" of landing an unnamed striker.
The Hornets boss has been locked in talks with his number one target, a free agent, and is close to sealing a deal.
He told the Watford official website: "I'm reasonably hopeful the player will say yes. The person I want I have met three times in the last week".
