Deadline Day: Reds Bring In Delap

Barnsley have made their second signing of the transfer deadline day by bringing in veteran Stoke midfielder Rory Delap on loan.

The 36-year-old will stay at Oakwell until the end of the 2012/13 season.

Delap is probably best known for his incredible throw-ins, being able to reach the penalty area from near the half way line, and unlike most other long throwers, the trajectory of his throws has caused serious problems in Premier League defences.

He started his career back in 1994 with Carlisle United, where he made 65 appearances, scoring seven goals. He then moved on to Derby County and played for Southampton and Sunderland before joining Stoke in 2007.

Since then he has made 178 league appearances for the Potters, scoring eight goals, but providing many more with his throw-ins.

More activity is expected between now and 11pm, when the transfer window will slam shut. John Stones is yet to complete his move to Premier League side Wigan, but that announcement is expected any time.
