Two of Barnsley’s fringe players have been allowed to leave Oakwell, both dropping into League One.
Striker Stefan Payne who made 12 appearances for The Reds (all from the bench) has moved to Shrewsbury for an undisclosed fee where he scored twice in 12 games on loan in the second half of last season.
26 year old Payne joined The Reds on a free transfer from Dover in the summer of 2016 after scoring 40 times in 90 games for the non-league outfit but he failed to net for Barnsley. Payne had been on the bench for each of Barnsley’s four matches this season, coming on in the first three.
Sessi D’Almedia’s move to Blackpool has come as a bit of a shock as many Reds supporters thought he would get a chance this campaign. The Benin man had made a promising start to life in England after arriving from Paris Saint Germain in summer 2016 and appeared in three of the first four league games of 2016-2017 but at the end of August he tore his anterior cruciate ligament in an Under 23 match to rule him out for the rest of the season.
D’Almedia had been a prominent fixture in Barnsley’s pre-season this summer and despite not featuring in the first four matches it was still expected that he would appear once fully fit- this though is not the case and he joins Blackpool for an undisclosed fee.
