Barnsley will be in a higher league than arch rivals Sheffield Wednesday for the first time EVER next season after a 2-2 draw between the Owls and Crystal Palace at Hillsborough this afternoon condemned the blue half of Sheffield to the third tier of English football for the first time in five years.
It was a real winner-takes-all battle as the loser from this game would be relegated- Wednesday needed to win, any other result would send them down. In the end Palace led twice and the 2-2 score-line left Wednesday on 47 points, two off the safety mark.
Meanwhile at the opposite end of the table Newcastle United have become the first team in four years to break the 100 point mark in the Championship. The Magpies 1-0 win at QPR gives them 102 points- four shy of the 106 total Reading achieved in 2005-2006. They also remained unbeaten at St James’ Park for the entire season.
Blackpool's 1-1 draw with Bristol City gave them the final Play-Off place at the expense of Swansea City who could only drew 0-0 with Doncaster.
