Barnsley fans will be saying goodbye to a Reds legend after the club confirmed today that Bobby Hassell is to leave this summer after 10 years at Oakwell.
The 33 year old was signed by Paul Hart from Mansfield in the summer of 2004 and agonisingly leaves just one game short of the 300 mark for Barnsley.
During his decade in South Yorkshire the Reds have won promotion to the Championship via the play-offs and made the FA Cup Semi-Finals.
Overall players with a total of 406 Barnsley appearances will leave this summer as their contracts expire.
Out of the players whose deals were up, manager Danny Wilson has opted to offer fresh terms to just three, Stephen Dawson, Jim O’Brien and Tomasz Cywka.
There have also been development contracts offered to Brad Abbott, Christian Dibble, Darren McKnight and Rhys Oates.
Unless bids are accepted by the club, these players will complement the first team players still under contract like Luke Steele, Tom Kennedy, Jean-Yves Mvoto, Martin Cranie, Dale Jennings, Chris O’Grady, Danny Rose and Reuben Noble-Lazarus.
There remains mystery surrounding midfielder Jacob Mellis however with the club’s statement merely stating that Wilson will meet with the player’s representatives at a later date to discuss his future
