A proposed loan move which would have seen young Everton defender Shane Duffy move to Oakwell collapsed yesterday according to the Derry Journal.
The 18-year-old centre half was all set for a switch to Oakwell but the move was allegedly scuppered at the eleventh hour by Reds owner and chairman Patrick Cryne.
Mark Robins attended the 'Mini Liverpool derby' between Everton and Liverpool reserves and highlighted Duffy as the star man and when he approached the Toffees about the youngster the deal was all ready to be completed when talks stalled yesterday.
Duffy's father Brian said his son was 'gutted' at the breakdown of the one-month loan deal. The youngster had also attracted interest from Leeds and Preston.
Brian Duffy said:
"After David Moyes rang Shane on Wednesday morning last to say that Mark Robins wanted to take him on a month's loan, Shane was thrilled because at this stage of his football career he has got to play more first team games at a higher level than he is with Everton Reserves,
"Unfortunately this morning (Thursday) Shane got word that Everton and Barnsley couldn't agree terms and the deal had fallen through.
"David Moyes has turned down approaches for him from Northampton twice already, but we've been told that Leeds are still keen on signing him on loan, as are Southampton."
