David Flitcroft has accepted the offer of the caretaker manager role at Oakwell and will take charge of the Reds at Peterborough on New Year's Day.
'Flicker' has been assistant to Keith Hill since June 2011 but Hill was inevitably sacked yesterday after the Reds 3-1 home reverse against the shambolic Blackburn Rovers.
The Reds record in 2012 has merited the removal of Hill, after nine wins in 45 matches, and the survival from relegation last season only down to Portsmouth's ten point deduction.
Meanwhile, the main candidates in the betting are former Doncaster and recently sacked by Nottingham Forest, Sean O'Driscoll. Former Hull boss Phil Brown is also high in the betting as well as Flitcroft, if the club want to appoint from within.
