Despite seeing Doncaster Rovers relegated from the Championship in 2011-2012, Barnsley will actually play MORE Yorkshire derbies in 2012-2013 after Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield won promotion from League One.
Wednesday sealed their elevation on the last day of the regular season, pipping neighbours United to the final automatic promotion spot behind champions Charlton, and yesterday at Wembley, West Yorkshire’s Huddersfield- who the Reds eliminated from the 2005-2006 League One Play-Offs- sealed a dramatic penalty shootout victory over the Blades after a drab 0-0 draw. It will be the first time the Terriers have played in the second tier of English football for 11 years.
Today, there was League Two joy with Barnsley connections after former Reds centre half Steve Davis led Crewe Alexandra to the League Two play-off title, defeating Cheltenham 2-0 at Wembley.
