Fozzie Becomes Skipper!

Barnsley defender Stephen Foster has won the race to take over the captain's armband from the departed Brian Howard on a permanent basis.

Foster, Jon Macken and Darren Moore have all stepped in to take the armband since Howard left for Sheffield United and Foster, who should return to the side tomorrow against Watford, has won the race to be named permanent skipper.

Foster told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:

"I am absolutely delighted. That is probable the best way to describe how I am feeling at the moment after being handed the armband on a full time basis.

"To get the captains' role last season when Brian Howard was not around was nice but to be made Club Captain at Oakwell is a massive honour.

"I do not think it will make me play any differently but I am more of a talker than a shouter on the pitch anyway.

"It is a massive honour for me and I know my family will be extremely proud".

Meanwhile South Yorkshire police say they are monitoring the Hume/Morgan incident closely but have said they will not intervene unless Barnsley Football Club or Hume ask them to.

A statement on www.barnsleyfc.co.uk reads:

SOUTH Yorkshire Police are aware of the large number of concerns raised by members of the public following an incident during the Barnsley vs Sheffield Utd football match on Saturday 8th November 2008.

SYP would like to highlight the fact that there has been no complaint made to us by the player, his representative, Barnsley FC or the Football Association.

We have been in regular contact with both the club and the player to establish their views on the incident, and at this time none of the parties involved have expressed a desire to make a complaint to us.

If a complaint is made to us by either the player involved, the club, or the FA, it will of course be fully investigated.
