Barnsley boss Simon Davey has gone from zero to hero in the space of a month.
Davey started October with calls for his head as The Reds were one goal and one man down to Doncaster Rovers but the turnaround in that game coupled with the wins over Sheffield Wednesday and Doncaster again plus the draw with Bristol City has seen the Welshman nominated for the October Manager of the Month Award.
The Football League's Official Website reports:
"Simon Davey's Barnsley began the month second bottom of the Championship, with just one win and five points but October saw the start of their climb up the table. A 4-1 win over Doncaster kick started the month but ironically Rovers were 1-0 up when the Tykes went down to 10 men. The sending off of Darren Moore seemed to spark them into life as goals from Foster, Campbell-Ryce, Macken and Hume completed the win. They completed the double over their Yorkshire rivals as well as beating Sheffield Wednesday on their way to an impressive 10 points in October."
Davey has been nominated alongside Derby manager Paul Jewell and Birmingham boss Alex McLeish who also saw their sides take 10 points in October. Cardiff's Dave Jones is the favourite however as he saw the Bluebirds claim 11 points.
Meanwhile the remarkable run that has seen Davey nominated for Manager of the Month has also shot The Reds to the top of the Championship form table.
The form table is collated with results from the previous six games and Barnsley top it after taking an average of 2.17 points. The rest of the top 10 are:
Wolves: 2.00
Sheffield United: 1.83
Birmingham: 1.83
Burnley: 1.83
Cardiff: 1.83
Derby: 1.83
Reading: 1.67
Swansea: 1.50
Ipswich: 1.50
