Barnsley’s bid for a comfortable mid table finish and a trip to Wembley has been dealt a massive blow by the news Adam Hammill has been ruled out of action for about four weeks.
The 28 year old has been an integral part of The Reds rise from the bottom of League One- where they were when he arrived back at the club in November - to 17th after a run of six wins in his 10 league appearances, including four in the last five.
Since returning to Oakwell after four years away the former Liverpool youngster has netted four goals and played a key role but he was crudely clattered by Rochdale’s goa-lscorer Nathaniel Mendez-Laing in the final stages of Saturday’s 6-1 win and had to be carried off the pitch.
Today Hammill confirmed via Instagram that he had suffered a grade two MCL injury and will miss around a month, ruling him out of Barnsley’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Northern Final second leg at Fleetwood a week on Thursday.
