There has been endless speculation on the 21-year-old Scouser moving to the Reds but also Leeds had shown an interest and the winger has turned down the Elland Road outfit to sign for Barnsley.
Reds manager Simon Davey told the Official website:
"Adam is a fantastic prospect and one we are delighted to bring to Oakwell on a permanent basis. There was a lot of competition for his signature but Adam loved his time working with us last season and believes that this is the right place for him to develop as a player. He is young, talented and enthusiastic and a great addition to our squad.
"He was loved by our supporters during his spell with the Club last season and I am sure that they will be delighted to see him back in a Barnsley shirt on a permanent basis. It is a great coup to bring him to Oakwell".
Hammill enjoyed a successful loan spell with the club last season, scoring once in 14 appearances and wowing the Reds fans with his all action displays.
